Don Fehr Resigns: How He Changed the Toronto Blue Jays and Baseball Forever

The MLBPA is now the strongest union in sports. Headed by Don Fehr, the union came, saw, and conquered the collective bargaining world. The players couldn't have asked for a better negotiator.

Don Fehr decided to step down as head of the MLBPA on Monday.

Under Fehr's leadership the contracts of baseball players have become more and more beneficial to the players, at a cost to everyone else.

Scutaro, Not Jeter for All-Star Game AL Shortstop

There is always a good deal of popularity factors in All-Star voting. That doesn't mean we have to like it. Knowing how something happens doesn't make it better.

Derek Jeter is loved. What's more, he's loved by a fan base that dwarfs most, that of the New York Yankees. So this is the answer to the question, "Why is Derek Jeter 100,000 points ahead of Marco Scutaro in the All-Star balloting?" Here's why that answer doesn't cut the mustard.

Good, Bad, and Ugly: Jays Knock Off Nationals, Halt Win Streak at Four

"Three bad games out of how many? I think that's what's going on. It happens to everybody." -Ryan Zimmerman, June 21, 2009
The Result: The Toronto Blue Jays got four runs in the first inning, one in the second, and one in the third, defeating the Washington Nationals 9-4 on Sunday and halting the Nats' season-high winning streak at four games.

Scott Rolen: Like a Rock

This is a subject that is very close to my heart.

When the Toronto Blue Jays traded Troy Glaus for Scott Rolen, I had to be talked down off the ledge of the .500 level.

Troy Glaus was my favourite player. He was just a guy you would watch step to the plate with a mouthful of Skoal and take hacks that could turn baseballs to dust—and who would give me cause to learn lip reading when he would pop out.

I loved it. Losing Glaus meant losing the best part of the Jays for me, I thought we'd rue the day.

Well, I was wrong.

Roy Halladay to Be Placed on DL

Update

According to MLB.com, Roy Halladay will be placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday. Halladay experienced some discomfort during his bullpen session Wednesday, which prompted the move.

Halladay is eligible to come off the DL on June 28 and expects to be ready to go.

Is It Time to Trade Vernon Wells ?

Mired in a huge four out of 45 at-bats to hit ratio is Mr.Vernon Wells, or as most of us Torontonians call him, V-dub.

Still currently hitting out of that four spot, the slugger position, Wells has earned it with his on and off talented bat and defensive seasons. He currently hits .238, with a measly five home runs, and a high left on base total. Comparing our slugger to our small ball second basemen, Aaron Hill, who has 14 home runs tells you something.

Terrible Canadian Television and Vernon Wells' Slump

Last night I was subjected to an episode of the animated Bob & Doug. Why was this show created? SCTV was a funny show. This thing is an abomination. It doesn't relate at all to Canada anymore.

They don't even have Rick Moranis doing the thing, it's Dave Thomas with Dave Coulier (the guy from Full House who's not Bob Saget or John Stamos and does HILARIOUS voices). Why must we tarnish everything good Canada ever made by trivializing it?

What Was the Best Toronto Blue Jays Game This Year?

After an incredible start to the season, I for sure thought baseball was back in Toronto. Fans were excited, tickets were selling, and most importantly the Jays were winning.

Now, at 34-31 and tied with Tampa Bay for third place in the dreaded AL East, the Jays get a much needed day off.

With the day off however, we don't get to enjoy the Jays tonight. And after so many great games so far this season, I started to wonder about which game was the most memorable game so far.

The Candidates:

Toronto Blue Jays: Losing Litsch Is a Loss for More Than Just the Jays

Before I turned out the necessary Roy Halladay article (by necessary I mean that writing anything else before dealing with that would have been near sacrilege), I was working on another angle.

I was writing about a player who needs more things written about him before we forget.

His name is Jesse Litsch.

I was watching during his first start against the Baltimore Orioles. The big story was his father sitting in the stands; and he won the game for the Jays in convincing fashion, pitching the most innings ever by a Blue Jays first-time starter.

The Obligatory "End Is Nigh" Column: Roy Halladay's Groin

Armageddon has arrived. I hope you've stockpiled your canned goods.

Roy Halladay exited Friday's game with a strained right groin, and I think the Four Horsemen have just run through my backyard. Death trampled my tulips and Famine is eating the burgers off the barbecue.

I'm scared, hold me.

No pitcher means more to a franchise right now than Halladay. No one.
