Yankees-Mariners Series Preview: Seattle Aims To Strong Arm New York

The Yankees closed out the Interleague slate with their best victory of the year, mounting a dramatic four-run comeback in the ninth against the Dodgers on Sunday, before winning the game on MVP candidate Robinson Cano's two-run homer in the 10th.

New York took two out of three from Los Angeles to finish 11-7 versus the National League. The first-place Bombers (47-28) now welcome in the last-place Mariners (31-44) for a three-game set this week at Yankee Stadium.

Edwin Rodriguez and the Florida Marlins: A Win-Win Scenario In Puerto Rico

Simply call it perfect timing.

It's only fitting that MLB's first Puerto Rican-born manager stood in Hiram Bithorn Stadium for baseball's return to the island.

Edwin Rodriguez's story, though uncertain with the mystery surrounding who will be the Florida Marlins' permanent manager, is a good one.

He lives five minutes from the stadium.

More than 150 people greeted him at the airport and began chanting his name when the Marlins arrived.

Fantasy Baseball Box Score Breakouts—6/28/10

Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

Jake Westbrook, Cleveland Indians
Westbrook gave up one run in six innings to improve to 5-4 with a 4.69 ERA.

Player Profile: Josh Vitters of the Chicago Cubs

Coming out of Cypress High School (Anaheim, CA), Josh Vitters was considered one of the most polished high school hitters in the 2007 draft.

His arm strength was excellent and considered his best defensive tool, but defense was his weakness. He had no range, was a below average fielder, and had no running speed.

Still, the Cubs selected him as their No. 1 pick in 2007, and Baseball America currently lists him as the No. 3 prospect in their organization.

MLB Trade Rumors: Adam Dunn, Carlos Zambrano Could be New Hot Names

Here we are just a few days away from the month of July where the sun isn't the only thing that will be burning hot.

We've talked about a lot of rumors over the last few weeks but there could be a few new names added to the fire.

Carlos Zambrano MUST Be Released By Chicago Cubs

On Monday afternoon, Chicago Cubs GM Jim Hendry announced that starting/relief/not-really pitcher Carlos Zambrano would enter some form of treatment program and would be placed on baseball's "restricted list" until after the All-Star break.

Restricted? Does he have to trade his boxers for briefs for the next three weeks?

Ubaldo Jimenez 2010 Vs. Bob Gibson 1968: Who's Better Through June?

Ubaldo Jimenez has a great start to the 2010 campaign, where he has a 14-1 record to go along with a 1.83 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. It measures up against many of the great pitching starts to any individual season.

But how does it measure up against the start of one of the greatest pitching seasons of the modern era: The 22-9, 1.12 ERA, 0.853 WHIP, 258 ERA-plus of Bob Gibson's 1968 campaign?

Detroit Tigers Reliever Joel Zumaya Injured, Who's a Likely Replacement?

Detroit Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya suffered from what appeared to be a major elbow injury as he exited the game in the eighth inning.

Zumaya, who is known for his high-velocity pitches that frequent the 100 mph mark, said he heard a pop in his throwing arm after his last pitch of the game against Michael Young.

The Tigers went on to win the game against the Minnesota Twins 7-5.

The Chicago White Sox Aren't (Adam) Dunn Just Yet: MLB Trade Rumors

A month ago, the White Sox were clear sellers. After a sudden resurgence, they have become possible buyers.

On June 8 the White Sox were 24-33 and 9.5 games back of the Minnesota Twins. A reported yelling match between GM Kenny Williams and manager Ozzie Guillen occurred that same night.

The White Sox went on to win 15 of their next 16 games and currently sit two games back in the division behind the Detroit Tigers.

Show Us What You Got: New Skills Competitions for the MLB All-Star Game

There are more skills required to play baseball than there are for any other sport.

Just think about what it means to be a "five-tool player." Only a few dozen people in the world can both hit and hit for power, let alone run, throw, and catch. That's without even considering pitchers.

Yet, the MLB All-Star Game features just one skill competition: The Home Run Derby.

In this slideshow are 10 contests that MLB could add to its All-Star festivities that test some of the game's neglected skills. A description of the event, five players who could compete, and my predicted winner.
