Cubs-Giants: Burrell's Bat, Bullpen's Blunders Set Up Thrilling Finish

It seemed as if Pat Burrell had done it again, but this time, he needed help.

The San Francisco Giants trailed the Chicago Cubs in the finale of a four game series, 3-1.

Pat Burrell led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a home run to left-center field. Pablo Sandoval followed with his first home run in his last 46 games to tie the game.

Sanodoval was happy and relieved that he finally had broken his streak of 178 at bats without a home run.

Phillies Are a Box of Chocolates: You Never Know What You Will Get

Remember Forrest Gump?  If he wasn't fictional, he would have a blast watching the Phillies. We are, "like a box of chocolates—you never know what you're gonna get." And that is the way it goes for Phillies fans.

Last night, Stay Puff Marshmallow Man, Blanton, delivered in innings two through five.  As expected he did not perform in the first or the sixth (Uncle Charlie, why did you not pull him after the fifth?) He allowed four runs on eight hits and four walk.

Yankees Survive Late Rally to Top Royals

After coming back from a five-run deficit to defeat Texas on Wednesday, New York nearly blew a late lead on Thursday. CC Sabathia pitched 8.2 innings and New York survived a ninth inning rally to defeat Kansas City, 4-3, Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium.

New York played in their fourth consecutive one-run game, going 2-2 during the stretch. Kansas City lost for the eighth time in their last 10 games.

Ron Washington: Insane Or Brilliant?

The Rangers seem to have the AL West all but locked up. They have by far the largest lead in any division in baseball, yet some things just don't seem right at the moment.

With Ian Kinsler and Joaquin Arias on the disabled list, the Rangers are a little thin at second base. Ron Washington seemed to think that we may need a bit more help in that area so Christian Guzman was introduced as a Ranger.

Atlanta Braves: Who Will Step In As Chipper Jones' Replacement

In the Atlanta Braves recent win over the Houston Astros, longtime third baseman Chipper Jones tore his left ACL and will need season-ending surgery to repair it.

Right off the bat, this leaves the Braves (and Jones) with many questions. While the long term question facing Jones may be about retirement (which I go into more detail about here), the short term focus for Atlanta is on finding a capable replacement for Chipper.

Chipper Jones: A Final Farewell to the Atlanta Braves Legend

Atlanta Braves fans everywhere are in a sudden state of shock.

Chipper Jones, the face of the Atlanta Braves franchise and the last link to "The team of the 90's," will miss the rest of the 2010 season and has possibly played his last game as an Atlanta Brave.

When people think about the Atlanta Braves, the first name that comes to mind is Chipper Jones and the second name that comes to mind is Bobby Cox. It now seems like the Atlanta Braves will be without both at the conclusion of the 2010 season.

Think Phillies Bullpen Will Ruin Postseason? Think Again.

Let’s face it, we’ve all had those moments during the 2010 Phillies season.

Charlie Manuel casually strolls to the mound, head down, and then signals to the bullpen to send some relief for his reliever.

As we watch another bullpen arm head for the dugout, we reiterate that nobody in the Phillies front office listened to our concerns about relief pitching at the trade deadline and beyond.

Jim Hendry Must Go: Chicago Cubs Need a New General Manager

As I'm doing my ritual refreshing of my twitter page, I see my cousin re-tweet something that made me stop in my tracks.

Central Command: St. Louis Cardinals Quiet Brandon Phillips, Reds

The planets are back in alignment.

After two grand slams, a benches-clearing brawl, a rain delay, and a series to remember, the St. Louis Cardinals have returned to their usual perch atop the National League Central.

Can The Cincinnati Reds Recover From The Beating?

The St. Louis Cardinals came in to Cincinnati to claim back first place in the division from the Reds. They may have done much more than that.

It wasn't even close. In the three game series, the Cardinals outscored the Reds 21-8.  Forget about the infamous basebrawl of game two—the Cards hit the Reds hard and often.

This could be the single most pivotal point in the season for the Reds. How they react, bounce back, or fade away between now and September 3rd will determine the whole season.

Why September 3rd?
