This Just In: Stephen Strasburg Is Good at Baseball.

It cannot be overstated how amazing the debut of phenom Stephen Strasburg was.

Personally, I've never seen anything like it, and I seriously doubt that you have either.

With so much hype surrounding the young man, it seemed impossible for him to possibly live up to it, especially in his first big league outing. But live up to it he did, perhaps even making it seem like he wasn't getting enough hype.

Stephen Strasburg Debut: Rookie Delivers, Nationals Win Behind 14-K Performance

So much for first game jitters.

In the much-anticipated arrival of pitcher Stephen Strasburg to the majors, the flame throwing right-hander gave fans a glimmer of hope in a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

From the moment Strasburg took the rubber Tuesday evening, he was in control despite the home run given up to Delwyn Young.

In seven innings of work, Strasburg gave up four hits, struck out 14 (yikes!), and walked none. Not bad if you started him in a league that uses K/BB ratio as a category.

MLB Draft 2010: Is Cito Culver Next Derek Jeter or Yankees Wasted Pick?

New York Yankees, meet the next Derek Jeter. 17-year-old shortstop Christopher "Cito" Culver was drafted last night by the Yankees as the 32nd overall draft pick.

Rochester native Culver is only the second high school shortstop to get drafted by the Yanks in the first round since Jeter in 1992, and CJ Henry in 2005.

The Yankees will look for the Irondequoit High School senior to develop into the likes of his favorite player: Jeter.

MLB Fantasy Power Rankings (June 7th)

These rankings are based on a 300-point system, 150 for offensive production and 150 for pitching production. 30 points (1 point for each team) is the most points any team can get in a given category. For instance if the Rays lead the league in HR’s they will get 30 points for that category. The 5 offensive categories used:

HR’s, RBI’s, Runs, Average, and SB’s . The 5 pitching categories used: Wins, Saves, WHIP, ERA, and K’s.

2010 MLB Draft Results: Cubs Selection Of Hayden Simpson a Real Head-Scratcher

With the 16th selection in the 2010 MLB draft, the Chicago Cubs pick...Hayden Simpson? Who?

That's exactly my thought process when I heard of this very strange and unexpected decision by Cubs Scouting Director Tim Wilken.

The only thing more surprising would have been if the Cubs had picked Homer Simpson.

Even ESPN's Keith Law was stunned, saying that "For one thing, it's not scouting director Tim Wilken's style; he loves athletes and hard throwers, guys with upside who have the chance to become stars."

Historic Debut: The Era Of Stephen Strasburg Begins Tonight In Washington

Tonight, the king will finally pitch from his throne.

Stephen Strasburg, the number one overall pick from a year ago, makes his anticipated debut tonight, in the nation's capital of Washington, DC.

If you were under a rock for the past two months, it might not have been a bad thing.

The most hyped prospect in the history of baseball was showcased on every MLB outlet possible.

All of his starts in Triple-A were shown on television around the country, and no one came away not impressed.

SF GIANTS: <br/ >Five Surprises and Four Concerns After 54 Games

As the Giants prepared to finish their three-game series in Pittsburgh yesterday, 54 games were in the book. Their record was 29-25, and at the one-third point of the season, it's easy to do the math. If they continue to play at this pace, they can expect to be 12 games over .500, or 87-75.

Much like last year.

Which is to say good ... but not good enough.

In an NL West now characterized by the surprising Padres, the resilient Dodgers, and the Ubaldo-led Rockies, 87 wins will fall short of first and will probably not lead to a wild card spot.

Fantasy Baseball Box Score Breakouts: June 6, 2010

Here’s a look at some unheralded players who played well yesterday.

Javier Vazquez, New York Yankees

Vazquez gave up two runs on one hit with nine Ks over seven innings as he improved to 5-5 with a 5.63 ERA.

Jeff Francoeur, New York Mets

Francoeur went 2-for-4 with a HR (six) and three RBI. He’s hitting .268 with 33 RBI.

Drew Stubbs, Cincinnati Reds

Gaylord Perry: Hall of Fame Cheater

Gaylord Perry threw the spitball, an illegal pitch that was outlawed in 1920.
