Derek Jeter and David Wright, New York's Finest

The Mets and the Yankees are rivals by geography, they have to be, Queens vs. the Bronx. And as the Subway series moves crosstown to Yankee Stadium, it's time to take a look at the backbone of each of these two teams.

Derek Jeter and David Wright, the faces of the Yankees and Mets, are two outstanding men on the field and off.

Despite the uniforms that they put on each day, Jeter and Wright don't share a heated rivalry, like Roger Clemens and Mike Piazza had going.

Chicago White Sox Pitcher Jake Peavy Has Achy Shoulder

It’s never a good sign when a manager says his ace pitcher “has some things going on” in his shoulder, but that's exactly what Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said about Jake Peavy the other day.

Due to Peavy’s achy shoulder, the White Sox skipped his Thursday night start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he'll attempt to start on Saturday.

Kelly Johnson: Potential Trade Candidate

With the Arizona Diamondbacks sitting at 26-41 and 12.5 games out of 1st place in the NL West, it is obvious that they will be sellers when the trade deadline arrives. The Diamondbacks have already started trading players. They swapped Connor Jackson for minor league reliever Sam Demel on July 15th.

Detroit Tigers Square Off With Former Teammate Dontrelle Willis

The Detroit Tigers look to keep their winning streak alive in interleague play against ex-Tiger pitcher Dontrelle Willis tonight.

So far, the Tigers have a perfect record against the National League, sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Nationals in consecutive three-game series'.

Nonetheless, the Tigers should expect a tough night of work, considering D-Train will want to prove that he still has a capacity to contribute quality pitching outings.

Mets Trade Target: Kelly Johnson

Another player that the Diamondbacks are rumored to be looking to move is Kelly Johnson.

New York Yankees Notes

Andy Pettitte didn’t have his best stuff last night, but he still managed to pitch seven innings while giving up only two earned runs. It seems like he does that every night out these days.

The Yankees still lost though, thanks to Kyle Kendrick who allowed just one run over seven innings, and Joba Chamberlain, who fell apart in the ninth when he was charged with three earned runs. The final score was 7-1.

Here are some notes:

The Cincinnati Reds are Still in First?

Are the Reds really in this for the long haul?

The calender says it's mid-June and the Reds occupy the top of the NL Central. This is uncharted territory for a team that is emerging from the "lost decade."

Typically the injuries begin to pile up, and the Reds begin to fold. This year features more of the same injury problems (Homer Bailey, Ryan Hannigan, Chris Dickerson, Mike Lincoln, and Edinson Volquez), but the team has stayed afloat.

The difference?

Veterans such as Scott Rolen and Orlando Cabrera.
