Armando Galarraga Robbed Of History By Jim Joyce

Armando Galarraga just completed a perfect game for the Detroit Tigers, except Jim Joyce made the worst call I, and most likely all Tiger fans have ever seen.

Galarraga retired the first 26 Cleveland Indian batters and faced Jason Donald for his moment in history. Donald hit a weak grounder to first baseman Miguel Cabrera who tossed to Galarraga at first. Joyce called Donald SAFE!

It was a close play but Joyce clearly blew it, and should have got together with the other umpires and got it straight. However, he chose to stick with the WRONG call and ruin history.

Dear Baseball Purists: Are You Happy Now?

Baseball purists cost Armando Galarraga a perfect game.

It's as plain and simple as that.

Oh, don't get me wrong. Jim Joyce blew the call outright on Jason Donald's ground ball to first base with two outs in the ninth inning Wednesday night. He's not without blame.

But it's the baseball purists, who wax nostalgic about World Series games in the afternoon, four-man rotations, and pitchers hitting who are culpable here.

Armando Galarraga's Blown Perfect Game Gives Reason To Improve Instant Replay

For the first time in his life, Armando Galarraga was ready to put himself into the record books.

Ready to become the 21st man to throw a perfect game, Armando faced 28 batters, all of them failing to reach base. Until, second to last batter ( unfortunately), reaches base safely on a base hit, but what should have been the third out of the inning.

Umpire Jim Joyce clearly missed the call, which has brought the entire MLB world in shock and anger.

Griffey Calls It Quits: The Kid Has Left The Building

The Seattle Mariners have certainly had their struggles thus far this season, as high expectations heading into the year haven't amounted to much.

The lack of production at the designated hitter slot has been a major issue, and Ken Griffey Jr. finally took action Wednesday, when he officially announced his retirement after a 22-season career that should make him a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Griffey's career has been one for the ages. His 630 home runs are fifth on the all time list, none of which came this season, as he hit a meager .184 with only seven RBI.

Armando Galarraga Has Perfect Game Spoiled By Blown Call

In what will only be considered the biggest blown call in the history of Major League Baseball, Armando Galarraga's perfect game was brutally stolen from him by the cold-hearted first base umpire, Jim Joyce.

Galarraga, Game of Baseball, Robbed of 21st Perfect Game

Life is not fair. Ask Armando Galarraga.

The Detroit Tiger pitcher was one out away from a perfect game against the Cleveland Indians, when a close play at first base involving Galarraga covering, was ruled in favor of hitter Jason Donald.

He was out, as Galarraga clearly had control of the ball and foot on first before Donald reached the base.

Umpire Jim Joyce, who made the call, was booed mercilessly immediately after the call, and for the rest of the time he was on the field.

Armando Galarraga Loses Perfection: Ump Blows Call On Final Batter

Let me say this—I am not a Detroit Tigers fan, but I am a baseball fan. And that is why the game I just watched left an angry and deflated feeling inside of me.

Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga was throwing a perfect game. Keep in mind, Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay threw one just a few days ago.

So I tuned in to the ninth inning on ESPN. The first batter of the inning hit a deep fly ball that I thought would fall. It fell, but into the CF's Austin Jackson's glove. Whew. Then came the second batter of the inning—ground ball.

Armando Galarraga: For His Sake, Extend Instant Replay

Eight and two—thirds perfect innings.

Everyone agrees it is that 27th out that is the hardest. There was Jason Donald hitting a slow roller to first and hustling down the line.

Armando Galarraga beat him to the bag. He knew it. Miguel Cabrera celebrated. Jason Donald knew he'd been thrown out.

But, Jim Joyce, the first base umpire, saw it differently.

And, sadly, to the history books that is all that matters.

The game just ended and if you haven't heard what happened to Armando Galarraga yet, I'd be shocked.

Could You Hit a Man With Glasses? Top 10 Four-Eyed Hurlers

Who’s No. 1 in your top 10 list when talking about the best pitchers—over the last 25 years—who wore glasses on the mound?

Inspired by K-Rod’s incredible start to the 2010 season for the New York Mets and the great Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn of Major League fame, today I’ll be ranking the best four-eyed hurlers in the game.

Calling It a Career: Ken Griffey Jr. Calls It Quits After 22 Seasons

The words Frank Sinatra made famous, "I did it my way," are being sung up in the rainy city as longtime Seattle Mariner, Ken Griffey Jr., decided to call it a career after 22 seasons in the big leagues ending with 630 career home runs.

I remember watching him so many years ago when he first broke into the league. He was the sweet swinging left-hander that made it look so easy. His stroke seemed effortless, yet he could send a ball 500 feet with one swing of the bat.
