MLB Fines Ozzie Guillen, Joe West, and Mark Buehrle

It has been reported that Major League Baseball has fined Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, pitcher Mark Buehrle, and umpire Joe West an undisclosed amount for the actions during Wednesday's game against Cleveland, leading to the ejections of Guillen and later Buehrle after they disputed two balk calls.

After the game, Guillen went on a tirade against West, done in classic Ozzie Guillen fashion. Major League Baseball said it would begin investigating Thursday night, and quickly came to a decision Friday afternoon.

Giants Offer Pat Burrell Two Weeks to Make Good

The San Francisco Giants are nearing a minor league deal with free agent outfielder Pat Burrell, 33, that would give the veteran two weeks to make good and earn a big league spot.

The Pittsburgh Pirates: Why We Continue To Root for Them

17 years of futility and losing, and it will likely become 18—possibly 19.

Yet I am still faithful, and I am not embarrassed whatsoever about rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Some people in Pittsburgh have moved on to larger-market teams such as the Red Sox and Yankees (I have been rooting for the Pirates and Red Sox since birth; I am not a bandwagon-jumper).

Which Sacramento River Cats Are Ready for Oakland?

Coming into the 2010 Season, the Sacramento River Cats seemed destined to dominate. They were loaded with potent bats and talented pitchers.

Their 21-27 record as we near the end of May isn't exactly dominant, though. In general, the pitching has performed well enough, but it's the River Cat bats that are slumping, something fans are more used to seeing in Oakland in the Spring.

Dallas McPherson, a minor league free agent signing the A's hoped might regain health and power numbers has been sitting on the D.L.

New York Yankees Exec Brian Cashman Made a Mistake Signing Randy Winn

Last offseason, the Yankees were in the market for an outfielder that could hit lefties. The tricky thing was that Johnny Damon was a free agent.

The Yankees didn’t want Damon, though. They didn’t want to deal with the hassle of dealing with his agent Scott Boras and certainly didn’t want to give in to his multi-year contract demands.

Paging Brad Lincoln: Charlie Morton May Be Sent Down by Pittsburgh Pirates

Charlie Morton has not been exactly what you would call a "good pitcher" for the Pittsburgh Pirates this season.

In fact, Morton has been something you would call a "horrible pitcher that deserves to be sent to the minors" this season.

Morton, 26, was expected to become one of the Pirates' better pitchers this season after they acquired him in the Nate McLouth trade.

Atlanta Braves: Yunel Escobar, Brian McCann Beginning to Heat Up

As the month of May is drawing to a close, it’s hard to believe that coming into this month the Braves were in last place and just a game removed from a nine-game skid.

It almost feels like we are in a different season.

After a decent start to the month, the Braves caught fire—and have won five out of their last six series (the other series was a 1-1 split between the Braves and Mets).

Yankees Release Randy Winn

Chad Jennings of the Journal News is reporting that the Yankees have designated outfielder Randy Winn for assignment to make room on the roster for Curtis Granderson who is returning from a groin injury.

“I was ready. I was prepared. … I played terrible,” Winn said after hearing he’d been cut. “That’s the bottom line.”

Move On: Five Hitters MLB Teams Need To Send Packing

Some may be fan favorites, while others have had fans calling for their release for years.

These hitters have reached the end of the line with their current team and it's time for both to move on.

They are all above 30, some play for good teams while others play for bad. But they no longer hit the ball like they used to, and have become a weak link in the lineup.

Feel free to chime in with your own players who deserve to make this list...

Phil Hughes: Should the New York Yankees Let Him Pitch?

The Yankees apparently have a "plan" for Phil Hughes that will take effect in the coming months, allowing him to stay within his pitching limits this season, in other words the Joba Rules turned Hughes Rules.

Joe Girardi and Dave Eiland have it set up so that they could give Hughes an extra two weeks of days off over the next two months.

The Yanks do have four scheduled days off in June, and an additional five off in July. Add the All-Star break on top of that, then yes, the Yankees plan does schedule out correctly.
