New York Yankees Notes: Hughes, Cano, Sanit, Posada, Aceves, Duncan

Phil Hughes and Robinson Cano lead the Yankees to a 8-2 victory over the Indians. Here are some notes:

Cleveland Indians In Unique Position To Take A Stand Against NY Yankees

Friday night's game against the New York Yankees saw a lot of bad umpiring in the form of blatant hometown calls.

As if the latest meltdown from the bullpen wasn't bad enough, umpire C.B. Bucknor called Robinson Cano safe on a lead-off single that replays clearly showed Jason Donald's throw beat him to the bag.

Donald and Bucknor weren't done, though, as Donald was called out at first in the seventh inning on what appeared to be an infield single.

New York Mets Notes: Igarashi, Barajas, Murphy, Lee, Westbrook, Millwood

Johan Santana and the Mets got in a pitcher’s duel agianst the Brewers yesterday, but lost 2-0 as Yovani Gallardo went the distance.

Here are some notes:

Fantasy Baseball Around the Majors: May 28: Cabrera, Cain, & More

Miguel Cabrera returned with a bang. Matt Cain put on a dominating performance. Robinson Cano continues to rake. Let’s look at these stories and all the rest from yesterday’s games:

Yankees Nick Swisher Engaged to Joanna Garcia

According to Lia Eustachewich of the NY Daily News, Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher has gotten engaged to his girlfriend actress Joanna Garcia.

Here is more from the Daily News:

Nick Swisher told reporters Friday he’s been engaged to “Privileged” actress Joanna Garcia since May 19.

Tyler Colvin: The New Leader of the Chicago Cubs

In November 2009, Tyler Colvin moved to Arizona to train with Cubs strength coach Tim Buss.

The training program add 25 pounds of muscle and Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella was very impressed with him early this spring.

"We noticed right from the start of spring training at Fitch Park that he was taking some really good batting practice and driving the ball to left-center, right-center," Piniella said.

Who Would Have Thought? Biggest 2010 MLB Surprises

Making a list of the biggest surprises of the 2010 baseball season is risky considering how easy it is to leave a player or event off the list. Still there will be enough surprises to make up for any omissions.

Players

The biggest surprise to me is that Carlos Silva, who was 5-18 over his two seasons in Seattle, is the only pitcher among 18 pitchers with six or more wins to not have lost a game in 2010 with two more days left in the month of May.

Comparing the Cubs Leadoff Hitters: Ryan Theriot vs. Kosuke Fukudome

Three players have started a game atop the Cubs batting order this season: Ryan Theriot, Kosuke Fukudome, and Marlon Byrd.

Theriot has led off 38 times, Fukudome 10 times, and Byrd once heading into Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Among those who follow the Cubs, the choice between Theriot and Fukudome is a contentious one. Neither is the ideal choice for a leadoff hitter, but for a team without any better candidates, they have their own advantages.

Mets Need to Pick Up Show on the Road, Throw Fernando Nieve at Brewers

MILWAUKEE: Things aren't working out right now for the Mets away from Citi Field. At 6-15 on the road this season, the Mets will put their series hopes in the hands of reliever Fernando Nieve.

Last season, Nieve came up to make seven starts and didn't do a bad job. His overall numbers last season, including one relief outing, were 3-3, 2.95 ERA.

The problem here is, he hasn't been used as a long man this season, so how much of a big transition will it be to make a start?

Brian Sabean's Frank, Fiery Radio Outburst Provides Long Awaited Insight

KNBR's Ralph Barbieri finally asked the questions and pushed the buttons that Giants fans have been hoping for—and general manager Brian Sabean responded.

Boy, oh, boy! Did Brian Sabean respond!

Giants fans who've grown weary of beat writers and columnists asking the same questions and accepting the same answers about everything from why the club hasn't called Buster Posey up from the minor leagues to Tim Lincecum's struggles should listen to the entire broadcast.
