Rockies-Dodgers: Aaron Cook Must Put His Foot Down Against Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Dodgers are becoming the Atlanta Braves of 1993, '94, and '95. The Rockies simply cannot find a way to beat them.

San Francisco Giants Notes

Matt Cain threw a one-hitter tonight and was absolutely masterful.  He had great command, particularly of the fastball, and there wasn’t much the Diamondbacks could do.

The Giants are apparently on the verge of signing Pat Burrell to a minor league deal.  One report (from Fox’s Ken Rosenthal) has it that Burrell will get an option to opt out of the contract after two weeks, presumably if he hasn’t been called up to the major league club by then.

Why Jordan Schafer Should be in Center for the Braves Before the All-Star Break

Does anyone else remember the hype machine surrounding Jordan Schafer from about, say, 2007 up until 50 games into the 2009 season?

The sky was the limit for this kid.

He was (and still is) a superb glove in center and has the potential from a speed/contact standpoint to turn into something resembling an above-average Major League talent.

Pretty amazing what a 50-game suspension and a broken wrist can do to a career isn't it?

Rounding The Bases: May 28th

Welcome to the long weekend all of you hard workers, as it looks like it will be a great few days to be outside here in the Northeast.

Time to BBQ some burgers and dogs, drink some beers, and do some yard work outside.  But of course don’t forget about your fantasy baseball!

Ellsbury On DL: Should Red Sox Players Trust the Team Physician?

Outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury is back on the disabled list due to the rib cage injury suffered in Kansas City during the first week of the season.

He missed the next five weeks and returned to the lineup just last Saturday, but during the week, he suffered a relapse of the symptoms that took him out of action after colliding with 3B Adrian Beltre.

After being put back on the disabled list earlier today, Ellsbury implied that the Red Sox medical staff gave him bad information last week when they told him playing would not aggravate his condition.

Oakland A's: Is Adam Rosales the New Marco Scutaro?

Marco Scutaro was beloved by the fans. Mr. Dlutch came through time and time again with winning walk-off hit after winning walk-off hit. One of Scutaro's most memorable moments for the Oakland A's was in the 2006 ALDS against the Minnesota Twins. Scutaro's bases-clearing double in Game Three broke the game open and broke the A's decade-long curse, helping send the A's to the ALCS.

Minnesota Twins: So Long New York—Bring on The Mild, Mild West

Thanks to Nick Blackburn and Jason Kubel, the hold that the Yankees had over the Minnesota Twins may have been broken.

Going 2-4 against the reigning World Champs, although not as great as we had hoped, is significantly better than the 0-10 of 2009.

Blackburn was the benefactor of three Kubel home runs that resulted in the two victories over the Bronx Bombers.

As the Twins say good riddance to the Yankees, at least until the inevitable matchup in October, they can focus on ten games against the American League West.

Close to Another Shut Out, Mets Lose To Brewers in Ninth

MILWAUKEE-- For a while, it seemed as if the Mets were about to throw their fourth consecutive shutout. It took until two outs in the ninth for the streak to be snapped after 35 2/3 innings.

It was a classic pitcher's duel between two aces. For the Mets, Johan Santana was on the mound. He was lights-out, as he became the first pitcher for the Mets this season to go eight innings.

Lookin' Sharp: The 25 Best Alternate Jerseys in Major League Baseball

Afternoon baseball is always a treat.

One part that makes day games unique is the alternate threads.

Teams break out their color-ridden uniforms instead of the normal white and gray jerseys. Sometimes these threads are a masterpiece. Other times, they are just a disaster.

Let's take a look at the 25 best alternate jerseys in the Majors.

Detroit-Oakland: While Cabrera Goes Yard Thrice, Tigers Lose Opener to Athletics

After what could be construed as a successful west-coast road trip, the Detroit Tigers came home Friday to face the Oakland A's.

And lost 5-4.

Miguel Cabrera supplied all of the offense for Jim Leyland's club.

Yes, all of it.
