To call Max Scherzer’s first eight starts of the 2010 season disastrous would be an understatement.  When you are carrying a 7.29 ERA and 1.67 WHIP, there is no one word to succinctly describe just how bad you’ve been.

Yogi Berra played catcher for the New York Yankees for 17 years and one season with the New York Mets.

Yogi is one of four players to win AL MVP three times. He also won World Series’ as a manager in both leagues. Yogi Berra played for 10 World Series teams.

Yogi is known for his quotes like, “It ain’t over till it’s over.”

With close to 50 games in the bag, some player trends are starting to mold. There are some huge surprises on the list and many big names are missing. Pujols, Howard, Fielder, A-Rod, Teixeira are all guys that missed this list.

Here are your top 10 fantasy players thus far. Four are pitchers and 6 are position players. They are not necessarily in any order. Andre Ethier has been left off the list due to injury.

The New York Yankees are expecting starting center fielder Curtis Granderson   back for Friday's game against the visiting Cleveland Indians. It will be a welcome sight to have Granderson back, and the Yankees could use his potential power bat back in the lineup. 

In 2009, Albert Pujols and Joe Mauer each won his league's Most Valuable Player Award.

For Pujols, it was a unanimous victory and his third MVP Award, tying the non-Bonds record of three, held by many players.

For Mauer, it was almost unanimous - some Tiger-homer voted for Miguel Cabrera - and his first MVP, putting him on the long list of catchers to have won the AL MVP Award.

Other than their 2009 Most Valuable Player Awards, Pujols and Mauer have something else in common - they each lead this list of the top ten players who may one day be the best player to ever play their position.

The NL East is easily the most competitive division this season, and can either be the most dominant or most overrated depending on your take (I believe the former). With every team right now playing .500 baseball or better, it is easily anybody's division to take.

Yet, in spite of this, there are teams that, on the inside, need help quickly if they're going to stay competitive. Likewise, there are others that are going to be fine.

I must confess—I bought into the hype this offseason.

The Seattle Mariners, coming off an 85-win 2009 season, made some serious moves in the winter.

They traded for one of the best starting pitchers in baseball in Cliff Lee, giving them one of the more formidable one-two punches along with blooming superstar Felix Hernandez.

I know last night’s loss to the Twins was a bit deflating, but let’s not overlook the fact that the Yankees took two of three on the road from a very good Twins team. 

Tonight, my wife and I took the trip up to Montclair State University to meet Yogi Berra at his book signing event. It was a fun event for both of us and something we enjoyed doing together.

The Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center is located on the campus of Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey.

Last week, Roy Oswalt spoke publicly about wanting to be traded. He did not want to waste his final years playing for a terrible Astros team.

He wanted a shot to win a championship.

In New York, we get excited when a team ponders about trading a star player or when a player demands to be traded. We assume the Yankees and the Mets will get involved.
