World Series

A true Dodgers fan understands the meaning of the upcoming interleague series against the team's cross-town American League rival. These Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim—so called for marketing reasons—are not true rivals in our book. 

The Dodgers and Angels cannot go back in history and recall any turbulent battles between the two teams. Each organization does have its history of great players, though they never met in a meaningful game—let alone the World Series.

It would be unbelievable if it wasn’t so believable.

When Luis Castillo dropped that pop-up on Friday, I was as stunned as every other Mets' fan. When Johan Santana got completely hammered today, I may have been just as stunned (well, not really – but do we actually need to start worrying about him now?). Listening to Tim McCarver sing on Saturday may have been the most stunning moment of all. If you thought the Phillies series was bad, that was a walk in the park compared to this weekend.

What was the strength of last year's World Championship team is now the weakest link on the team.

We all remember where we were on September 11, 2001. I was twelve years old, in bed sick, watching SportsCenter as usual. I suddenly got bored with the current sports topic at hand and randomly switched the television to Good Morning America.

Among the names mentioned are Javier Vazquez, Jonathan Sanchez, Erik Bedard, Jarrod Washburn, Jon Garland, Roy Oswalt, Jason Marquis, Jake Peavy, Brad Penny, and Pedro Martinez.

The last time the Phillies faced CC Sabathia, outside of spring training, Brett Myers was starting the defining moment of the 2008 National League Division Series, the first time that I thought to myself, "This is the year."

The 1950 Phillies, affectionately nicknamed the Whiz Kids due to their youthful age, clinched the National League pennant on the final day of the regular season.

Note: This article is not meant to provoke, I simply want to hear the opinions/views of the other side. In addition, I wasn't a Royals fan in 1985, so I don't have that experience in my emotional memory, so I'm almost a neutral party in this case

A friend of mine (a Royals' fan) just attended the Royals-Cardinals game at Busch Stadium and received a lot of fairly derisive remarks.

With the Phillies heading to (the new) Yankee Stadium for a weekend series against the history rich franchise in the AL East, and since I don't usually blog too much on the weekends, I thought this would be a good opportunity take a look at the 1950 World Series.
