In 1947, Ted Williams won the American League's Triple Crown. He led the league in batting with a .343 average, in home runs with 32, and in RBIs with 114.  Williams had a .499 on base average, a .634 slugging percentage, and drew 162 walks.

In 1947, Joe DiMaggio hit .315 with 20 home runs and 97 RBIs. He had a .391 on base average, a .522 slugging percentage and 64 walks.

There is no comparison.

Brett Gardner did everything he could have possibly done to help the New York Yankees sweep the Texas Rangers in their weekend series.

On Friday night, Gardner did not start the game. He came in as a pinch runner and immediately stole second base and then scored a run.

On Saturday. Gardner started in left field and went 3-4 hitting in the nine hole. He also scored two runs, drove in one run and stole another base.  All of his hits were infield hits where Gardner used his speed to get on base.

By now, most of you have probably seen the video of younger Ariel Antigua and his extraordinary baseball talent. In case you haven’t, I’ve attached it to the post. The five year-old Lyndhurst boy can hit 85 MPH fastballs from both side of the plate and field like someone three times his age. Normally I’m not a fan of parents forcing their children to play sports, but it looks as if he really loves baseball.

In baseball, there are such things as intentional walks on defense. Could there be such a thing as intentional strikeouts on offense? That is a question that may have been put to the Yankees last night.

You're the home team, with one out in the bottom of the fourth. You have just made the breakthrough of a formerly tied game; first, having loaded the bases, and then scoring all three runners on two subsequent hits, leaving you with men on first and third, ahead 4-1.

If there has been one thing that has plagued the New York Yankees the past few years, it has been their slow starts to the season. The Yanks then have to finish the season strong to be in contention.

However, 2010 is starting off great for the reigning World Series Champions.

The Yankees are 7-3 entering Saturday's afternoon game against the visiting Texas Rangers. The Yankees are a half-game in front of Tampa Bay and Toronto, and two-and-a-half games ahead of the Red Sox.

It was important for the Yankees to get off to a fast start for a few reasons.

As expected, the Yankees have put relief pitcher Chan Ho Park on the 15-day disabled list after he pulled his right hamstring warming up in the bullpen yesterday. Taking his place on the roster is left-handed pitcher Boone Logan.

I wanted to give my opinion on Joe Girardi wanting to pull CC Sabathia before the ninth inning of last Saturday's game at Tampa Bay.

Sabathia was cruising along with a no-hitter into the 8th inning, when with two outs Kelly Shoppach, a former teammate of CC's at Cleveland, singled to left.

Even before the ball landed, Girardi was out of the dugout to remove Sabathia.

If you were a fan of the Yankees or Red Sox in the mid to late 90's, you no doubt took a side in the Nomar Garciaparra/Derek Jeter debate.

Jeter and Garciaparra were two of the new breed of shortstop. Shortstops were no longer defensive specialists and merely adequate with the bat—Jeter and Garciaparra were two of the premier hitters in baseball.

Both won Rookie of the Year awards, Jeter in 1996 and Garciaparra one year later.

The Yankees have won each of their first three series by a count of two games to one, and they'll hope to keep that success going this weekend as they welcome the Texas Rangers to town.

The Rangers are 5-4, tied in the loss column with first-place Oakland, and have received some solid pitching so far. Texas is third in the American League with a 2.95 ERA, fourth in batting average against (.238), fourth in WHIP (1.28), and third in quality starts at seven.

They'll put those solid stats to the test during these three games against the powerful Yankees lineup.
