Ted Lilly, Ryan Theriot, Octavio Dotel: Feel Better Fans?

Well the clock has ticked past the magic witching hour when teams have a last chance to cure what ails 'em via non-waiver trade. The Los Angeles Dodgers were very active at the deadline just as GM Ned Coletti promised. Boy oh boy, is the NL West ever in for it now!

If you detect a hint of sarcasm, then you're far more astute than Ned. Then again, I have old socks that are more astute than Ned.

MLB Trade Rumors: Red Sox Acquire RP Daniel Turpen From S.F. Giants

The Boston Red Sox have acquired minor league pitcher and 2007 8th-round draft pick Daniel Turpen from San Francisco to complete a trade deadline deal that sent reliever Ramon Ramirez to the Giants, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford.

The 6-3, 230-pound Turpen turns twenty-four this August and has posted a 2.69 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in over 220 composite minor-league innings. While Turpen has naturally been most dominant at the Single-A level, his 2010 numbers at Double-A Richmond haven't been quite as impressive.

MLB Trade Deadline Fantasy Baseball Fallout: Dotel to the Dodgers

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers have acquired Octavio Dotel for James McDonald and Andrew Lambo (Lambo’s presence in the deal comes from Jayson Stark via Twitter.).

The Dodgers Get

Dotel helps become the bridge to Jonathan Broxton and could give him a day off from time-to-time.  He brings strikeout ability, with 48 Ks in 40.0 innings, though he does have a 4.28 ERA and 1.30 WHIP.  He’ll hold value for those who play in leagues that value middle relievers, but that’s about it at this point.

MLB Trade Rumors: Red Sox Acquire Texas Rangers' Jarrod Saltalamacchia

The Boston Red Sox have acquired Texas Rangers' catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia in a deal consummated even as the bell tolled on the 2010 non-waiver trade deadline. In addition to cash considerations, Texas will receive three players, including Roman Mendez, Chris McGuinness, and a player to be named later, according to WEEI's Alex Speier.

MLB Trade Deadline: Braves Trade for Rick Ankiel and Kyle Farnsworth

For Jesse Chavez, Gregor Blanco, and Tim Collins, the Braves acquired the now infamous converted-pitcher Rick Ankiel and an old friend (save the 2005 NLDS) in Kyle Farnsworth (as well as come cash from the Royals).

That's a right-handed reliever with a straight fastball, a AAAA outfielder (as much as we loved him in Atlanta), and a 5'7" lefty with a huge ceiling and awesome stuff (308 Ks in 202.2 career MiLB innings) for two more-than-serviceable Major Leaguers.

New York Yankees Acquire Lance Berkman And Austin Kearns

What would a trade deadline be without the New York Yankees getting involved?

After kicking the tires on pitchers Cliff Lee and Dan Haren, the Yankees decided to go in a different direction on Friday by adding some offense. The Yankees on Friday acquired 1B Lance Berkman from the Houston Astros for Mark Melancon and Jimmy Paredes. Then they traded for OF Austin Kearns for the ever-so-popular player to be named later, or PTBNL, as all the cool kids say.

First, let’s talk about the Berkman move because that is the more significant move.

MLB Trade Deadline: Red Sox Deal Ramon Ramirez to San Francisco Giants

The Boston Red Sox have traded struggling righty reliever Ramon Ramirez to the San Francisco Giants at the 2010 MLB trade deadline.

While Ramirez has been less than effective in the American League this season, the Red Sox have been actively shopping him to National League clubs with whom he might experience a resurgence, including the New York Mets.

MLB Trade Rumors: Marlins Acquire Lefty Will Ohman From Baltimore

According to latest reports filtering out from the 4PM Trade Deadline, the Florida Marlins have acquired left-handed reliever Will Ohman from the Baltimore Orioles for right-handed reliever Rick Vandenhurk.

Will Ohman arrives as a much needed arm to very shaky bullpen which is at the top of most lists when it comes to blown saves. Ohman appeared in 51 games for the last-place Orioles, with 29 strikeouts in 30 innings and an ERA of 3.30.

MLB Trade Deadline: San Francisco Giants Hold Strong Amid Feeding Frenzy

With the minutes ticking away toward the 2010 Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline, fans saw the typically violent flurry of activity as general mangers hustled to smooth out the rough edges. Some of the moves look brilliant while others seem to stink of acquisition for acquisition's sake.

Take a gander at the maneuvering that started way back at the beginning of July and decide for yourself:

July 9th —Texas Rangers acquire RHP Cliff Lee from the Seattle Mariners for 1B Justin Smoak, RHP Blake Beavan, RHP Josh Leuke, and INF Matt Lawson.

How Did we Get Here? One Night in July at Citi Field

After a dreadful road trip immediately following the All-Star break, the New York Mets returned to Citi Field and proceeded to take two out of three against the St. Louis Cardinals. This series win not only stabilized the team to a certain degree, but it also created a very important series—as far as July goes—against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In order for the Mets to sniff any sort of playoff berth this year, it seems to be they need to win every single series at home and pray for rain on the road. Does this remind anyone else of 2005?
