Fantasy Baseball Trade Deadline Fallout: Friday Recap

The trades continues to fly yesterday, with four “bigger” deals done and a few more rumored to be completed on Saturday.  Let’s recap what actually happened in case you missed anything:

Yankees Notes: Hughes, Joba, The Boss, Berkman, Kearns

The Yankees scored two runs in the first inning yesterday, but failed to tack on any more runs as they lost to the Rays 3-2 when Phil Hughes gave up a three-run homer in the sixth inning.

Here are some notes:

Philadelphia Phillies Make Another Blockbuster Move, Acquire Roy Oswalt

Another year and another trade deadline dominated by the Philadelphia Phillies quest to acquire a starting pitcher. Last year the Phillies acquired Cliff Lee near the trade deadline, and this year they have acquired another front-line starter.

The Phillies acquired Roy Oswalt from the Houston Astros for JA Happ and minor leaguers Anthony Gose and Jonathan Villar. The Astros will pick up $11 million on Oswalt’s contract and the Phillies will not pick up Oswalt’s 2012 option, which was a sticking point for a while.

Roy Oswalt Disappoints in Philadelphia Phillies Debut

If there's anyone like me who wasn't a true fan of the move to bring in Roy Oswalt, you're probably hoarse from screaming at your TV all night long.

Oswalt was incredibly erratic in his Phillies debut as he and the team fell to the Washington Nationals, 8-1.

New York Mets Hand Ball to Hisanori Takahashi In Series With D-Backs

NEW YORK-- In order for the Mets to compete into August and September, they'll have to start doing two things. Win games on the road and beat up on bad teams.

The Mets have had trouble doing both, and are now 0-4 this season against the last-place Arizona Diamondbacks.

Last night, the Mets scored six runs but five were on two swings from David Wright. Other than his bat, the Mets offense didn't do a whole lot much.

Arizona Diamondbacks Send Chris Snyder To Pirates, Chad Qualls to Rays

It looks like the Arizona Diamondbacks aren't quite done with their apparent fire sale just yet.

John Gambadoro of Sports 620 KTAR is reporting that Arizona has agreed to send beleaguered relief pitcher Chad Qualls to the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later.

Qualls, a 31-year-old righty in his third year with the Diamondbacks, has a 8.29 ERA with a 2.00 WHIP.

Top Five Worst New York Mets Trades

If you're a Mets fan, you are familiar with heartache. The very term "Mets fan" is synonymous with pain. This trade deadline has brought us too many moments of agony to rehash, but there are several that stick out in the collective memory of the fan of the Mets. These trades are the lemon juice in a cut type of transaction. They were the ones that really stung.

Cubs Allow 12 Runs in the Eighth For a 17-2 Loss to Rockies

A defeat is bad a blowout loss is even worse.  The Chicago Cubs know exactly how it feels tonight in Coors Field with an inexplicable 17-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies.

They had no hitting and plenty of bad pitching.  The 17-run loss is their worst this season after a 16-5 defeat by the Atlanta Braves on Opening Day.

Record-Setting Rockies Roll Over Cubs

Who are the Rockies?

After scoring 17 runs over the course of eight games, the Rockies scored 12 runs in one inning on Friday night in a 17-2 rout of the Cubs at Coors Field.

The eighth-inning outburst set club records for hits in an inning, 12, and consecutive hits, with 10.
